On April 1, MCS Middle School and High School student teams participated in the 43rd Annual Olympics of Visual Arts, showcasing their months of hard work against 36 competing NY school districts in Saratoga Springs. The Middle School Fashion Design team won 2nd Place, the High School Fashion Design team won 2nd Place and The Hyndman Creativity Award, the High School Sculpture team won 3rd Place, and the High School Drawing team won 2nd Place. Congratulations to all!!!!

Letter from Superintendent Osterhoudt

The Margaretville chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) attended the New York State Leadership Conference at the Villa Roma Resort in Calicoon, NY March 26-28th. Twenty-two MCS students, with their Advisor Kate Van Benschoten and chaperones Julia Marks and Liam Schoonmaker, joined thirteen other schools and approximately 240 students from across the state. They participated in educational workshops and received inspiring motivation from keynote speaker Lasada Pippen, and brought home 2 bronze, 2 silver, and 4 gold medals. Eight MCS students competed in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition), which are highly competitive events, requiring months of work and preparation. Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals are earned, reflecting the scores on their work. Many students were not only first time competitors, but even first time attendees to the state conference. Bronze medals were awarded to Addison Passarelli and Julia Balcom Salazar who both competed in the Career Investigation category, Level 1. Silver medals were awarded to Patrick McLoughlin and Sadie Smith who both competed in Cupcake Decorating, Level 1. Gold medals were earned by the team of Danielle Sanford and Matthew Greene in the Culinary Arts, Level 1 event, and also to Bella Andre in the Cake Decorating, Level 3 event. Both of these were a first-time achievement for gold in these categories in Margaretville's history. A gold medal was also awarded to LilliAnn Van Benschoten in Fashion Construction, Level 2. Additionally, Van Benschoten was granted an invitation to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL this coming July based on the quality of her garment and presentation. Addison Passarelli completed a year of serving as a Junior Leader in the organization, which included attending the 2024 Summer Leadership program and the 2024 Fall Leadership Meeting, taking educational workshops and assisting with event planning for the state conference. Students enjoyed a formal banquet and dance, networking with other kids from across the state, and workshops on topics such as stress management, digital fingerprints with the NYS Police, and travel and hospitality. Advisor Kate Van Benschoten looks forward to working with students beginning in September 2025 on plans for next year's state conference.

News from UPK - Letter of the week was letter V. We went on a Vacation- camping in the mountains. We roasted marshmallows, told camp stories, sang songs and we rested in our tent! It was Very nice time!! We may vacation at the beach next!! Thank you, Mrs. Balch's class

Today, 1st grade had their 3rd class party of the year! To celebrate their hard work and positive behavior, the students enjoyed ice cream sundaes with their favorite stuffy in their pajamas while watching The Magic School Bus.

MCS also welcomes new MS Social Studies Teacher Michelle Zaia. Michelle is a lifelong New York State resident originally from the Hamilton area. I graduated from SUNY Cortland with a dual Bachelor's degree in Adolescence Education and History as well as a Master's degree in Literacy education. This is my 20th year of teaching Social Studies to students in grades 7-12. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience at all grade levels as well as collegiate level Psychology and Sociology. I have also worked with the National History Day organization and the Case Method Institute through Harvard University to enhance my teaching. In these fabulous 20 years of teaching I maintain that knowing who my students are as people is the best way to assist them in being successful on their educational journey.

MCS welcomes new Special Education Teacher Belle Bourke. Miss Belle Bourke is a life-long resident of Delaware County having attended school at both Margaretville and Andes. A 2021 graduate of The College of Saint Rose, she holds certifications for both general and special education at the elementary grade level, as well as for special education at all other grade levels. Since graduating, Belle has been teaching in both general education classrooms and, more recently, in the Special Education programs. In her free time, Belle enjoys performing music and spending time with her pets.

Pre K had a visitor from the Farm to School program organized through Cornell Cooperative Extension. Mrs. Balch and Mrs. Bossler's classes learned how a pumpkin grows and then they planted pie and large pumpkin seeds.

BM Baseball will have practice from 3-4:30 today, 3/18.
