Superintendent Osterhoudt had the opportunity to interview Katie Nichols after learning that she is SUNY Delhi's Presidential Scholarship recipient. Mrs. Osterhoudt wanted to find out about Katie's plans for her future.
Mrs. Osterhoudt: What are your plans for your future and what do you hope to study at Delhi?
Katie: I'm currently in New Visions at BOCES for health care but I'm interested in the Vet Tech program at SUNY Delhi. I eventually want to become a veterinarian. I expressed this to ONC BOCES--they are making it possible for me to do some shadowing and rotations at a local animal clinic.
Mrs. Osterhoudt: What is your fondest memory of MCS?
Katie: Meeting Ryder and my two best friends--Amelia P. and Ava F. I came to Margaretville as a sophomore from New Jersey. I was familiar with Margaretville because my grandparents live here and I would come up in the summers. I love it here, but I do miss my Jersey friends.
Mrs. Osterhoudt: What advice would you give to future seniors?
Katie: My biggest advice is to not treat school like a joke--not too seriously but understand it determines your future. Do not get Senioritis! I'm struggling a little bit with that right now. And try! That is how I got my scholarship--when you are high achieving that shows that you have a purpose.
Mrs. Osterhoudt: What is something you believe we could improve at MCS? (Please be very honest).
Katie: I would like to see more language options at MCS. And more AP and honors programs--to allow students to better themselves--college is competitive--we need more opportunity. I'd like to see lees students goof around- I wish students did not fall behind. They are not realizing how their behavior will affect their future.
