Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a new student at Margaretville Central School? Wonder no longer, as we are about to meet Alani Mendez. She is a new student this year. She transferred from Otsego Christian Academy and is a 10th grade student. One might think transferring into high school might be a tough adjustment however I would soon learn it was a great experience. We sat down and I asked her the following questions.
Q - Alani, what is it like as a new student at MCS?
A - "I really like it here. I felt welcomed as a new student and meshed in pretty well."
Q - How did you learn about our school?
A - "My family and I attended a Go Blue Event that my younger sister was invited to back in March. We were very astonished by the event and all of the awards and scholarship opportunities that were given out that night."
Q - What happened next?
A - "I was given a tour by the counseling office. Mrs. Balcom. She gave us a tour and it went quite well. After I started school, I met with Mrs. Triebe and she was very helpful. She was very understanding and caring."
Q - Any other shout outs you would like to give?
A - "My writing skills have improved significantly since enrolling and Mrs. Wells has been a big influence on my writing."
Q - What are you future plans after MCS?
A - "I want to major in Political Science."
Q - How could MCS help you with your future goals?
A - "I would like to ask that we consider have a debate team or club to help us improve our critical thinking."
Q - Any other shout outs you would like to give?
A - "Mr Nardone and Ms. Dietz are great teachers that have helped me feel welcomed at MCS. Ms. Dietz is passionate about Art. Mr. Nardone is a really great teacher. I really love all my teachers."
As the Executive Principal at MCS, it is my pleasure to welcome new students as a part of our community. It was my pleasure to get to know Alani a little bit better as a check-in to see how things are going. I also had the pleasure of getting to know her best friend Vasilissa who is also new at our school. We plan on having a similar interview next week to see how things are going. Stay tuned Margaretville as we learn more about our students.
