Margaretville Central School UPK and Elementary Students engage actively in their music learning through the four main principles of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to learning music; Singing, Speaking, Movement, and Play (play-based learning & playing instruments).
This hands-on approach to developing musicianship skills is developmentally appropriate, enhances cognitive and motor skills that extend far beyond the music classroom, and (most importantly) helps foster a joy for sharing, learning, and making music.
The students pictured are enjoying a cup-passing game through which they explored the steady beat, drumming, pitched percussion, dance, Sea Shanty music, singing techniques, and cultural and historical connections.
